Mill Valley
Overview
Mill Valley lies at the foot of Mount Tamalpais, the highest
peak in Marin County and a dominant landmark. The town has
a unique character. It has a charming downtown and is home
to a theater, nightclub, art gallery, coffee shops, and the
Depot Bookstore Café, a popular gathering place. Mill
Valley is one of the larger populations in the County and
education levels are among the highest in the nation.
Schools
The Mill Valley School District is an elementary school district
serving Mill Valley and the unincorporated areas of Alto,
Strawberry, Tamalpais Valley, Muir Beach, Panoramic Ridge
and Homestead Valley. The district includes five kindergarten
through fifth grade schools: Edna Maguire, Old Mill, Park,
Strawberry Point and Tamalpais Valley. Sixth through eighth
graders attend Mill Valley Middle School. All of these schools
have been recognized as California Distinguished Schools.
Mill Valley School District students reside in the Tamalpais
Union High School District, with most attending Tamalpais
High School.
Parks & Recreation
A wealth of recreational opportunities exist in the area including
a nine-hole public golf course, three parks, two recreation
centers, one with a pool, gym and ball fields. Numerous youth
programs are available through the Parks & Recreation
Dept. There are hiking and biking trails, a dog run, and a
wide range of annual events such as the Dipsea foot race,
Mill Valley Film Festival, Outdoor Arts Fair, Festival of
Wine, and a Memorial Day crafts festival in Bayfront Park.

Weather
When Mt. Tamalpais blocks fog from rolling into central Marin,
it sometimes ends up in Mill Valley. It is near the bay, so
it is a little cooler than inland locations. Average temperatures
range from 40 to 74 degrees.
Approximate distance from the Golden Gate Bridge is 8 miles.
